Leo Roth, 84 / May 27, 1926 – June 28, 2010

Leo Edward Roth, 84, recently of Elkhart, Ind. but formerly of Sunrise Drive, Edwardsburg, passed to his rest Monday, June 28, 2010 while a patient at Wakarusa Miller Merry Manor. His health had failed recently after a very active life.

Leo was born May 27, 1926 in South Bend to the late Leo and Marguerite (Benner) Roth. He attended school in South Bend, graduated and then joined the United States Marines. He served in World War II from 1943 to 1946 and then again as a sergeant during the Korean War, from 1947 to 1952.

Leo was married Sept. 1, 1951 in Mishawaka to Wanda M. Lindzy, who survives. He and Wanda moved to Edwardsburg, where Leo was a general building contractor for many years. In later years, he and Wanda formed their own company, L.&W. Construction, until his retirement. He built many homes in the area, which he did additions and other construction. He and Wanda owned and managed their own business.
Leo was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edwardsburg, even when the older church was located on South Shore Drive on Eagle Lake many years ago. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. He had a membership with the American Legion Post 303 in River Park, South Bend, and was affiliated with the Edwardsburg American Legion Post 365. He enjoyed fishing a spending lots of time with this family.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; children, Stephen (Deb), of Syracuse, Ind, Pamela Hanson, of Orlando, Fla. and Philip (Cindy) Roth, of Elkhart, Ind.; eight loving grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Blatz, of Granger, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Roth.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010. A Mass of Christian Rites will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 U.S. Highway 12, Edwardsburg, where friends may gather with the family one hour before the Mass. Officiating will be Father Joe McCormick, pastor.

There will be a military salute given after Mass at the church by the U.S. Marines and members of the American Legion.

Cremation has taken place.

Leo’s final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. at a later date and time to be arranged. Full military honors will be give then.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern Indiana, 922 East Colfax, South Bend, IN 46617.
