William David Hagood / Jan. 29, 1944 — June 23, 2010

William David Hagood, Sr., 66, of South Bend passed away at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010 in his home.

He was born Jan. 29, 1944 in Chicago to Wallace and Mary (Chambers) Hagood. David graduated from Brandywine High School and then served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.  He spent most of his life in the Michiana area. David was a meat-cutter for many years at several companies and grocery stores.  He also worked for Bangor Refrigeration.

On Oct. 30, 1965 in South Bend, Ind., he married the former Janice M. Miller, who survives. David is also survived by three daughters, Jeannette Troutman, of Osceola, Karie Hagood, of Mishawaka and Wendy (Jimmy) Kuhl, of South Bend; one son, William D. (Renee Keltz) Hagood Jr., of Mishawaka; seven grandchildren, John Gordon, Andrew Troutman, Codye Hagood, Kallie and Brandon Kuhl, and Connor and Jordan Keltz; four sisters, Frances Hagood of Niles, Patricia (Mike) Gaul, of Buchanan, Nadine (Tim) Rutledge, of Niles, and JoAnne (Lolo) Ramirez of LaPorte, Ind.; 11 nephews; and 13 nieces.
David was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Raymond Hagood.

Funeral services for David will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 in the Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Rd., South Bend, with the Rev. Ed Erskin officiating.

Military graveside rites and burial will follow in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles. Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 at the funeral home.
