Matthew L. “Little Pea” Poehlman, of M-60 West in Cassopolis, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 11, 2010 at his home. He was 23 years old.

He was born Sept. 23, 1986 in Mishawaka to parents Gregory Poehlman and Kathleen Klimek and was a lifetime area resident.

Matthew was a farmer and a student at Central Michigan University.

He is survived by his father, Gregory L. (Sandra) Poehlman of Cassopolis, his mother Kathleen (Lyle Bandurski) Klimek of Niles, brother Kurt Poehlman of Cassopolis; step-sisters Kelly Klimek and Karle (Nathan) Crosby both of Cassopolis; step-brother John (fiance Jackie Leske) Klimek of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; paternal grandparents Clifford and Mary Poehlman of Cassopolis and maternal grandmother Mildred Klimek of Niles. He is also survived by aunts Margaret (Jim) Walden of South Bend, Becky (Ron) Mulling of Grand Haven and Debbie (Dennis) Woods of Edwardsburg; uncles John (LouAnn) Klimek Jr. and Kent (Cindy) Poehlman both of Niles and a host of great aunts, uncles and cousins and two special friends Mat Mazingo and Robert Cinninger both of Niles.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Klimek, Sr.

Matthew was a graduate of Niles High School and was a member of its wrestling team. He was a former member of the Cass County 4-H Club. Matthew was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and loved attending the games.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, going to the beach and spending time with his dogs. He really enjoyed teasing his step-sisters and talking about life and changing the world with them.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 15 at 11 a.m. at Connelly Funeral Home in Cassopolis. The Rev. Larry Settle, retired pastor of the Pleasant View Church of Christ in Cassopolis will be officiating.

The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations made to the Niles High School wrestling team.
