NILES – Richard Smith, 85, of Niles, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, with his wife by his side.

After high school Richard went into the U.S. Navy and on June 12, 1949, wed the love of his life, Lou Ann Minniear, at a ceremony in Peru, Ind.

Together they had two sons.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons, Scott Smith and Jared Smith.
Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lou Ann, sons Dave (Christine) Smith of South Bend, Ind., Gregg Smith of Mishawaka, Ind., three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, June 12, from 2-4 in the afternoon with a service to honor Richard’s life at 4 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Niles.
