First ‘Underground Railroad Days’ to be held in VandaliaPublished 1:51pm Friday, June 4, 2010
The Village of Vandalia is pleased to announce its first “Underground Railroad Days” Saturday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 18 from noon to 5 p.m. in and around Milo Barnes Park in Vandalia.
Featured during the celebration will be bus tours of local Underground Railroad sites by the Underground Railroad Society of Cass County (URSCC). Dr. Michael Nassaney will speak about Ramptown Saturday at 11a.m. The Minority Coalition of Cass County will sponsor a forum on the Kentucky Raid of 1847 on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Carol Bainbridge will speak on the URR in Cass County on Sunday at 2 p.m.
There will be a Classic Car Show on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with music by DJ Dennis Ash, as well as community bake sales, craft booths, a yard sale and local food vendors.
A Memorial dedication honoring Bill Ayers, who originated the celebration, will be held at 3 p,m, on Saturday at the softball field.
Vandalia Village President Beverly Young invites everyone to participate in the event at no charge, however you must register. If you or your organization wants to have a craft or food booth, be a part of the yard sale, or participate in another way, call Beverly at 476-2344 as soon as possible.
