Alvia Frank “Al” Cater, 80, of Muskegon passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at North Ottawa County Hospice.

He taught at Muskegon Heights High School and was administrator at Portage Public Schools and Niles Community Schools before retiring in 1987.  He is survived by his wife, Juanita Kay Cater; four children, Alan Scott (Katie) Cater, of Santa Cruz, Calif., Kathryn A. (Jack) Angell, of Oswego, Ill., Cheryl L. Cater, of Niles and Thomas Jay (Michelle) Cater, of Lombard, Ill.; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter;  special cousin who was like a sister, Helen Weideman; and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at St. Mark Lutheran Church (4475 Henry St.) with the Rev. Mark E. Zimmerman officiating.  Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2010 at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, (231) 759-8565.
