Brandywine’s Bailey, Rose advances to regionals

CENTREVILLE – Lead by Division 3 District Golf Tournament medalist Chris Craft, the Dowagiac golf team captured the championship Thursday afternoon.

It was the first district championship for the Chieftain golf program.

Craft shot 74 to help Dowagiac to a team-best 320.

The Chieftains easily outdistanced runner-up Paw Paw, which shot 342. Schoolcraft was third with a 350 and Coloma fourth with a 354.

South Haven rounded out the top five with a 355.

The Lakeland Conference had a good day with Coloma advancing as a team, while it also qualified five individuals.

Advancing to the regionals are Brandywine’s Dillon Bailey and Zack Rose, Mark Westendorp and Matt Culby from Berrien Springs and Josh Whitfield from Buchanan.

Bailey was runner-up to the medalist after shooting 79.

The regional tournament will be played on Thursday, June 3 at Prairiewood in Otsego.
