Host Brandywine broke out the big lumber Thursday afternoon to complete its regular season with a sweep of White Pigeon.

The Bobcats finished with 28 hits, including 10 extra base hits as they defeated the Chieftains 14-2 in five innings and 11-10 in nine innings.

The sweep left Brandywine with a 21-14 record heading into next week’s district competition at Berrien Springs.

The Bobcats’ Joe Godfrey and Derek Nichols both homered in the opening game, while Godfrey also had a triple. Brian Exner and Cody Udell both doubled.

Kyle King picked up his eighth win over the season as he scattered six hits.

“Kyle pitched very well after settling in,” Brandywine coach David Sidenbender said. “I like the way we swung it all day really. Especially in the second game when we gave up a lead then came back to win in walk-off fashion.”

In the nightcap, Godfrey picked up his sixth win of the year in relief.

At the plate, Godfrey was also a factor, hitting a double and a home run.

“Joe Godfrey just absolutely crushed the ball today,” Sidenbender said. “Seven hits, six RBIs and two homeruns, that was a welcome sight today.”

Dustin Bell also had a homerun for the Bobcats, who got doubles from Cody Udell and Mike Schoenleber as well.

It was Schoenleber’s squeeze bunt that provided the winning run.

“Being that it was the seniors’ last home game I was extremely excited to seem them go out as winners,” Sidenbender said. “I can’t say enough about my nine seniors – Dustin Bell, Kyle King, Ralph Sater, Jeremey Zimmerman, Derek Nichols, Wayne Marazita, David Schoenleber, Cody Udell and Wyatt Taylor – each contributed to a great year so far and I couldn’t ask for better kids.

“They really kept things together after starting out rocky with some key losses – Jesse McCombs and Jake Frazier. Overall I couldn’t be happier with the effort I have received,” he added.
