Alfred Pfister, 84 / July 28, 1925 – May 10, 2010

Alfred Horace Pfister, 84, of Grand Haven Township died at home Monday, May 10, 2010.

He was born to Alfred and Lulu (Swartout) Pfister on July 28, 1925 in Niles. He married Barbara Ann Babcock on Aug. 7, 1948 in Detroit.

Alfred served as an officer and pilot in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1945. He graduated from Albion College in 1949 and was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Alfred spent his career employed as an advertising executive in the metropolitan Detroit area. He and Barbara retired 20 years ago and moved from Bloomfield Hills to Grand Haven.

Alfred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven and the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post 2326. Alfred was also a private pilot and member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, as well as the Grand Haven Aviation Club. Al and Barbara also enjoyed sailing and were members of the Grand Haven Sailing Club.
Alfred is survived by his wife. Barbara; his children, Charles (Shelley) Pfister, of Cambria, Calif., Sara (Gary) Mack, of Spring Lake, David (Alene) Pfister, of Lafayette, Calif. and Paul (Kathy) Pfister, of Grand Haven; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Edwards, of Niles.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Klute, of Niles.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
