EDWARDSBURG – It didn’t take host Edwardsburg long to sweep Cassopolis in a Lakeland Conference doubleheader Monday afternoon.

And that’s a good thing as temperatures soared near 90 with high humidity for the first time this season.

The Eddies used only four innings in the opening game to post a 15-0 win over the Rangers.

Edwardsburg needed just three innings to blank Cassopolis 15-0 in the second game.

Ashley Tackett and Ashley Wegner combined on a no-hitter.

Amelia Breslin provided all the offense that Edwardsburg needed with a lead-off homerun as the Eddies scored four in the opening inning.

Breslin’s two-run double in the third inning helped spark a seven-run rally for the Eddies.
Edwardsburg scored four times in the bottom of the forth to shorten the game.

Victoria Hurst finished with a pair of singles and a double, while Nicole Brooks and Deb Burton each had two hits.

All three players drove in a run.

Tackett earned the victory by working the first three innings, striking out four. Wegner worked the fourth for the Eddies.

Allison Koontz ended the game with a two-run single.

In the second game, the Eddies allowed just one hit as Tackett went the distance with six strikeouts.

The lone hit for the Rangers came off  the bat of Olivia Stewart, who suffered the loss in the circle.

Burton had two hits to lead the Eddies, who finished with six hits.

The Eddies will be back in action on Wednesday at Bridgman as they finish up the Lakeland Conference campaign.

Edwardsburg is now 25-9 on the year and 7-3 in the conference.
