DECATUR, ALA. – The Bethel College softball team used a three-run homer by Kaitlyn Dubois and stellar pitching by Kelli Zache and Rachel Zirille to defeat No. 3 ranked Lubbock Christian University 3-1 at the NAIA National Championship Tournament on Monday.

With a 3-0 pool play record, the Pilots advance to the elite eight where they took on William Carey University later Monday night.

On Saturday, Zache took a perfect game into the seventh inning and ended up throwing a no-hitter to lead the Bethel College softball team past IU Southeast by the final score of 1-0 on day two of the NAIA National Championship.

The Pilots managed five hits but were never able to mount a serious offensive threat as the game heading into the sixth inning.

In the sixth, Holly Weaver reached base on a one out single back at the pitcher. After Sarah Rassi flew out for the innings’ second out, Weaver stole second base to put the winning run in scoring position.

Katie Boocher then stepped to the plate and drove in the go ahead run with a single to right center field.

The win marks the 47th win of the season and head coach Anna Welsh’s 300th career victory.
