Rodts, Wortham regional champions

OTSEGO – The Niles boys’ and girls’ track teams both finished 10th at the Division 2 track regional on Friday night.

The meet was delayed more than three hours due to rain and thunderstorms that rolled through the area.

The girls’ discus will be completed today.

Sturgis will win the girls’ championship either way as it currently has 93.5 points compared to runner-up Otsego with 66.5 points.

Vicksburg was also an easy winner in the boys’ portion of the meet as the Bulldogs scored 116.5 points compared to 68 for St. Joseph.

Niles’ Madie Rodts captured the 800-meters with a time of 2:22.2, while she was also a member of the regional runner-up 1,600-meter relay team.

That team posted a time of 4:15.6. Also on the squad were Paige Chaffin, Taylor Brandstatter and Karon Nichols.

Brandstatter also qualified for the state finals in the 200-meters as she finished second with a time of 1:01.1.

Andrew Wortham captured the 400-meter regional championship with a time of 50.1.

Wortham also finished second in the 200-meters with a time of 22.6.

The Vikings also qualified its 800-meter relay team, which finished second with a time of 1:31.5.

Edwardsburg’s Zak Eggleston won the pole vault with a height of 12-4, while teammate Josh Clark qualified for the state meet by finishing second in the 800-meters with a time of 1:59.40.

The Division 3 regional meet at Constantine was canceled on Friday due to weather and will be run today beginning at 3 p.m.
