Niles eliminated from state tennis tournament

PORTAGE – Host Portage Northern and Mattawan both advanced to the state tennis finals on Thursday by finishing in the top two at the Division 2 regional.

Mattawan won the regional title with 27 points, while the Huskies were second with 20.

Portage Central just missed advancing as it finished with 16 points.

The top two teams, plus any team that scores 18 points, moves on to the state finals.

Niles did not score a point on Thursday.
