Roundup: Viking golfers defeat Buchanan

The Niles golf team defeated host Buchanan Tuesday afternoon at Orchard Hills Country Club 173-200 in a non-league match.

The Vikings’ Chris Noble shot 38 to earn medalist honors.

Niles also got a 44 from Brett Phillips and Christian Ezell, a pair of 47s from Jared Langmeyer and John Schrader, along with a 49 from Cole Hensel.

Buchanan was led by Derek Blank’s 48.

The Bucks also had Josh Whitfield with a 49, Adam Byrdak with a 50, Brent Brown with a 53, Dustan Craig with a 54 and Kole Griffey with a 56.

All-West Division
Niles landed three players on the Big 16 Conference All-West Division squad.

Led by division medalist Noble, who averaged 37.6 strokes per nine holes, the Vikings also had Schrader (41.8) and Phillips (42.3) on the first team.

They were joined by Mattawan’s Dylan Baker and Travis Snook, and St. Joseph’s Bert Vossler, Austin Grahl and Dylan DeLapa.

Honorable mention selections were Hensel of Niles, T.J. Morris of Benton Harbor, Collin McKey of Lakeshore, Jake Myers of Mattawan and Alec Hiler of St. Joseph.

Brandywine tennis at South Haven
SOUTH HAVEN – The Brandywine girls tennis team picked up two victories in the singles flight and swept the doubles matches for a 6-2 victory over South Haven on Tuesday. Alyssa Robbins led a group of seniors, who all got victories, with a hard-fought three-set win in number two doubles.

“I was glad to see our seniors, Coshow, Rankel, Simmons and Robbins, all went out with wins,” coach Joe Marazita said. “They are exemplary kids on and off the court, and they will be missed.”
