After breaking the school record Friday night in the 1,600-meters at the Allegan Invitational, one had to wonder what Niles senior Madie Rodts would do for an encore.

What she did was win four events, three as an individual and helped close out the meet as she anchored the 1,600-meter relay team.

But her efforts were not enough as the Bears edged the Vikings 84-79 in a Big 16 Conference West Division track meet.

The Niles boys’ team was not as fortunate as St. Joseph posted a 105-58 win over the Vikings.

Rodts captured the 1,600-meters with a time of 5:42.86 and then won the 800-meters with a clocking of 2:28.82.

Two events later, she ran a time of 12:58.23 to win the 3,200-meters.

With very little rest, she anchored the 1,600-meter relay team that posted a time of 4:35.86.

Also on that team was Milyne Briggs, Karon Nichols and Taylor Brandstatter, who had a pretty big night in her own right.

Not only was Brandstatter on the relay team, she also won the 400-meters with a time of 1:02.31, but captured the 200-meters after being clocked at 27.62.

She then joined forces with Savannah Wolnik, Ashley Love and Lindsey Chavous to win the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:52.02.

Niles picked up two other first place efforts as Love won the long jump with a leap of 15-7 and Chavous won the 100-meters with a time of 13.48.

Andrew Wortham, Brandon Partee and Ronnie Jones were all multiple winners on the boys’ side of the ledger.

Wortham won three events as he captured the 400-meters (50.48), the 200-meters (23.90) and was a member of the winning 800-meter relay team along with Jones, Anthoney Bice and Leon Murphy.

That group ran a time of 1:33.11.

Jones’ other win came in the long jump where he leaped 18-10.

Partee swept the hurdle events, winning the 110-meters in 15.91 and the 300-meters in 42.36.

Dowagiac will compete against both schools in the upcoming Division 2 regional at Otsego High School.
