Brandywine wins own tourney

The Brandywine soccer team captured its own tournament championship on Saturday by defeating both Parchment and South Haven.

The Bobcats defeated Parchment in the first match 3-1, while the Panthers then tied South Haven 0-0.

The Rams won the shootout 4-2 to advance to the finals.

In the championship match, Nicole Newman’s first half goal just 4:59 into the contest was the winner as Brandywine won 1-0.

South Haven outshot the Bobcats 6-4, but Carlie Newman made all six saves.

Against Parchment, Newman scored all three goals, including a pair in the first half.

Kalynn Vineyard had the assist on Nicole Newman’s first goal.

Carlie Newman had two saves.
