Active community member Harry Roberts will be celebrating his 80th birthday thisĀ  Saturday.

Roberts was born on May 16, 1930 in Dayton, Mich. He moved to Niles when he was very young and has lived here all his life.

Over the last 80 years Roberts has participated in many community groups and helped out with numerous events.

Roberts has been an active member for the American Legion 50. He retired earlier this year after serving more than a decade as commander.

He also worked for the Berrien County Road Commission for four years and served as supervisor for seven.

Roberts is a member of the Papasan-Mamasan Korea Veterans Association and has done lots of volunteer work with the group.

He has helped organize many community events such as the Memorial Day parade. He has also presented the American Legion scholarship to students at Niles and Brandywine high schools for the past several years.

An open house will be held Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m at the Silverbrook Community Park in the club house/office to celebrate Roberts’ 80 years of accomplishments and life.
Friends and family are welcome to join in the celebration.
