ROYAL OAK – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced its All-MIAA softball team for the 2010 season.

Former Buchanan standout Emily Ross was named to the first team for the second straight year.

She is a sophomore at Alma College.

Saint Mary’s outfielder Ashley Peterson earned Most Valuable Player honors, while Alma righthander Tara Leddy was named Most Valuable Pitcher.

Peterson, a senior from Lansing, Ill. (Marian Catholic HS), led the MIAA in eight statistical categories in league play, including batting average (.549), home runs (8) and RBIs (31). Her eight home runs broke the MIAA record of seven set last year by Hope’s Kelli Duimstra, and her 31 RBIs broke the league mark of 24 set by Alma’s Brandee Brower in 2000. Peterson also led the league in hits with 28, doubles with eight, total bases with 62, on-base percentage at .625 and slugging percentage at 1.216.

Leddy, a junior from Saginaw (Swan Valley HS), helped lead the Scots to the MIAA championship with a league-leading 0.84 earned run average and a 6-2 mark in MIAA play. She had seven complete games in eight starts, and struck out 43 batters in 58 innings while walking only five.
