Sally Fitzgerald, 66, of Cassopolis passed away Monday, May 3, 2010 in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Sally was born and raised in Kalamazoo on Feb. 9, 1944, and was raised by her parents, Virginia and Leon Snow Jr. He biological father was Elwin “Lefty” Sanford. They all have preceded her in death.
Sally started her career in law enforcement, working as a road officer with the Kalamazoo City Police Department, but soon went to work at the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, where she worked the road, then moved into the 911 center the last few years of her 34-year career. She truly loved her job. Her motto was “Hug your loved ones.”
The family would like to give thanks tot he Southern Care Hospice of Kalamazoo for all they did.
Sadly, Sally leaves behind her family and her love, her best friend and her husband, William E. Fitzgerald. She is also survived by her three children, Karry (Kevin) Gooding-Alber, of Elkhart, Howard (Wendy Sue) Haaon, of Dalton, Mich. and Randy (Sheri Lynn) Haan, of Delton, Mich.; five grandchildren; a sister, Wendy L. (Kurt) Vandermeer, of Kalamazoo; two “brother-like” cousins, Jerry and Bill Pifer; a son she called her own, Todd Fitzgerald; three stepchildren; and four step-great-granddaughters.
Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held Friday, May 7, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Connelly Funeral Home, Cassopolis. Officiating will be the Rev. Church Van Lente, of Grand Rapids. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:30 p.m. until the service. Interment of the cremains will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Cassopolis at a later date.
