Dogwood Fine Arts Festival prepares to add another notable author to its impressive history on Friday, May 7.

In the 19-year history of the festival, Lehane will be the 38th notable literary guest.

Lehane was born and raised in Dorchester, Mass.

He has written eight novels, A Drink Before the War; Darkness, Take My Hand; Sacred; Gone, Baby, Gone; Prayers for Rain; Mystic River; Shutter Island; and The Given Day.
Many of these novels have been New York Times best-sellers.

Lehane has become one of our most heralded mystery writers.

Mystic River was a finalist for the PEN/Winship Award and won both the Anthony Award and the Barry Award for Best Novel, as well as the Massachusetts Book Award in Fiction given by the Massachusetts Center for the Book.

Two novels, Mystic River and Gone, Baby, Gone were made into Academy Award-nominated movies.

Another novel, Shutter Island, was recently made into a movie directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Kingsley.

His latest novel, The Given Day, is currently in development for the big screen.

Lehane also won awards for his work on the HBO series The Wire.

Lehane will present a lecture and a question-and-answer session on Friday, May 7, at the Dowagiac Middle School Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $25 for main floor and $20 for upper seating.
