Dowagiac JV baseball team splits with Bears

ST. JOSEPH – The Dowagiac junior varsity baseball team split a pair of games with St. Joseph on Monday.

Dowagiac won the opening game 4-2 behind the three-hit pitching of Cal Cox.

Cox (4-3) struck out 11 and did not allow an earned run.

Cox also singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Tony Brooks singled and doubled to drive in a run, while Joe Badner doubled and had an RBI.

The Bears blanked the Chieftains in the second game 6-0.

Ryne Willming took the loss.

Jacob Williams and Logan Pellow both singled for the Chieftains.

Dowagiac was swept by host St. Joseph 5-3 and 9-7.

Taylor Meiser suffered the loss in both contests. She struck out eight and allowed just five hits in the first game. In the nightcap she struck out nine and again gave up just five hits.

Offensively for the Chieftains, Casey Weldy had a triple and a single in the opener.

Brittany Smith and Corinne Kasper also had hits.

In the second game, Kasper and Weldy both had two hits.

Shelby Huston, Katie Brooks and Hollie Olson each added a hit.
