For the first time in a Lakeland Conference match, arch rivals Edwardsburg and Cassopolis squared off in a girls’ soccer match.

The Eddies came away with the inaugural victory as they defeated the Rangers 3-1.

Edwardsburg got on the board first in the 13th minute when Leslie Boyles scored only to have Cassopolis knot the score at 1-1 on a goal by Bjargey Olafsson, who scored on a penalty kick a minute later.

The Eddies took the lead for good in the 20 minute of play on a goal by Ashlyn Chambers.
The score would remain that way the remainder of the opening half.

The Eddies completed the scoring in the 75th minute on a goal by Macy Stevenson.

“We knew this would be a difficult game for us as we were missing two starting defenders who had dress rehearsal for the play. That left us with a thin team, just two subs, and several players pinch hitting in different positions. It definitely showed in the quality of our play. We were very disjointed tonight,” Cassopolis coach Oli Olafsson said.

The Eddies outshot the Rangers 22-9 in the contest.
