Mattawan sweeps Niles softball team

Visiting Mattawan kicked off Big 16 Conference West Division softball play on Tuesday afternoon with a sweep of host Niles.
The Wildcats defeated the Vikings 17-0 in four innings and 12-0 in six innings.

Niles (3-8, 0-2 West) managed just three hits in the doubleheader loss.

Mattawan (17-0, 2-0 West) banged out 25 hits in scoring 29 runs.
In the opener, the Wildcats had 12 hits against Brittney Buti, who struck out three and walked 10.

Lauren Gevaart, who was the winning pitcher for Mattawan, had a homerun and a single. Allie Havers also had a homerun, while Alyssa McBride doubled and singled.

Buti had the lone hit for the Vikings.

In the second game, the Wildcats has 13 hits, led by Brynn Bradley, who homered and singled. McBride had a double and two singles, while Lorin Nagy singled and doubled.

Charissa Spear and Buti had the two hits for Niles.

Heather Daniels took the loss as she allowed just two earned runs with two strikeouts.
