Bethel softball team now 38-4-1 overall

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The No. 3 ranked Bethel College softball team ran its record to 38-4-1 with the MCC doubleheader sweep of Taylor University on Thursday afternoon in Mishawaka.

The Pilots used four big runs in the bottom of the second inning, thanks to a two run homer by Kaitlyn Dubois to jump out to a five run lead after two innings of play off of reigning MCC Pitcher of the Week, Holly Tomaszewski.

Bethel ended up scoring in every inning as the Pilots took the five inning game by the final score of 9-1. Holly Weaver, Brittney Fisher, Emily Kramer and Tara Blair each had two hits apiece as Bethel managed 11 total hits in the game.

Kelli Zache earned the victory by throwing four innings and allowing zero earned runs while giving up three hits and striking out six.

Game two was a lower scoring affair, but the Pilots did manage to score runs in five of the six innings they had at bats in as Bethel won the game by the final of 6-0.

Holly Weaver, Katie Boocher, and Sarah Rassi each had two hits. Both of Boocher’s hits were doubles while Rassi added a double and an RBI.

Rachel Zirille was in the circle for the victory as she went five innings giving up only two hits and allowing zero earned runs.

Kendra Zache came in to throw the final two innings. Combined with her one inning of relief in game one, Zache threw three innings of relief on the day allowing five hits and one earned.

Ancilla College
GRAND RAPIDS – The Ancilla College softball team completed its first round of play in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference with two more close calls, losing to Grand Rapids Community College 11-10 and 9-8.

Ancilla (9-25, 4-14 MCCAA) outhit the host Raiders (15-18, 5-11 MCCAA) 26-18 in the two games combined, but amassed 10 errors in both games to help lead to its demise.

With the sweep Grand Rapids and Ancilla swap the sixth and seventh place spots in the nine team conference.

Philippa Kindig had three hits and scored three runs in the first game, while Demi Schrader and Meghan Brown each picked up two RBI and two hits. Lindsay Duke, Trina Bauer and Kristen Helmick also had two hits for Ancilla.

In game two, Duke finished 2-4 with three RBI, while Helmick, Schrader and Amanda Thomason also had two hits each for the Lady Chargers.

Ancilla lost two games at Lake Michigan College by scores of 19-0 and 7-2.

Ancilla was held to four hits in the first game and committed seven errors on its way to the game one loss.

Lake Michigan (13-17, 13-7 MCCAA) rapped sixteen hits in the five inning victory.
Schrader was 2-2 for Ancilla.

The Lady Chargers took a 1-0 lead in to the bottom of the fifth, but a two out rally by the Indians produced a two-run home run by Alicia Myers to take the lead for good.
Kindig and Kristen Helmick produced the lone Ancilla RBIs.
