MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Former Niles standout Baysia Cox, a 6’2 center from Holy Cross College, is transferring to Bethel College to continue her athletic and academic careers for the 2010-2011 season.

She will play for Coach Jody Martinez and will have three seasons of competition remaining.  Baysia graduated from Niles in 2009.

Baysia was named Co-Freshman Player of the Year this past season in the tough Chicagoland Conference (NAIA) and made the Honorable Mention All-Conference Team. She led Holy Cross in scoring (14.2), rebounding (6.4), and field-goal percentage (55.4%). She also shot 69.2 percent from the free-throw line and 33.3 percent from the 3-point line.

“I am excited to be a student-athlete at Bethel College,” Cox said. “I love the strong Christian-faith atmosphere on campus. Playing on this team will lead me to making long lasting friendships, and a lot of wins.”

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to coach Baysia Cox,” head coach Jody Martinez said. “I know that I am getting a player that will work hard and always do her best on and off the court. Baysia is going to bring some key experience in the post game after playing one season at Holy Cross and playing in the Chicagoland Conference.

“She has a nice touch from the outside; passes very well with the inside/outside game; and can rebound. We are blessed to have Baysia Cox join the Lady Pilot Family at Bethel College for the 2010 season,” he added.
