Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hadley of Dowagiac are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary.

Richard Hadley and the former Kay Belton were married on April 22, 1955, in South Bend, Ind.

Kay graduated from Dowagiac high school in 1950. She worked for 34 years at Dowagiac Public Library, retiring in 2003.

A genealogy and local history buff, she is a member of the Cass County Historical Society and served for 25 years on the Cass County Historical Commission.

She is a member of First United Methodist Church in Dowagiac and belongs to the Etha Circle. She is also a member of the Friends of Dowagiac District Library.

Richard (“Red”) graduated in 1946 from Dowagiac high school, where he was a baseball standout.

He was drafted into the Army in 1951 and served two years in Heidelberg, Germany, with the 7888 Special Troops.

His special interests have always included fishing, baseball and country music.

He retired from Electro-Voice in Buchanan in 1993 after working there 38 years, many of those serving as union steward.

Joining them in celebration are their two daughters, Suellen (Curt) Gause and Janis (Gary Fernham) Hadley, both of Dowagiac; granddaughters Jessica (Mike) Rubino of Traverse City and Courtney Gause of Kalamazoo; and a 7-month-old great-granddaughter, Vivienne Rubino.
