The Brandywine baseball team swept a doubleheader from Lakeland Conference leader Berrien Springs on Tuesday afternoon, but it wasn’t easy.

The Bobcats came back from a seven-run deficit to take the opening game 9-8.

Brandywine completed the sweep with an 11-5 victory in the nightcap.

“I was very pleased how my pitchers battled tonight,” Brandywine coach David Sidenbender said. “Joe (Godfrey), Kyle (King) and even Dustin (Bell) really showed me something today.

“We still have things to get better at but it was huge the way we never gave up in game one, came back from an 8-1 deficit. I really thought our defense was good today, wow did we hit the heck out of the ball,” he added.

Godfrey pitched four innings of relief to earn the victory in the opening game.

The Bobcats used a six-run fifth inning to cut the lead to 8-7 and then scored twice in the sixth to pull out the victory.

Brandywine finished with nine hits, including a double by Godfrey.

King earned the victory in the second game as he tossed a four-hitter.

Brandywine finished with 12 hits in the second game, led by Derek Nichols’ home run. Nichols finished with four hits and five RBIs on the day.

The Bobcats (8-6, 3-1 Lakeland) also got a pair of doubles from King. Brian Exner, Buck Bourdon, Ralph Sater and Godfrey also doubled.
