PAW PAW – The Niles golf team increased its lead in the Big 16 Conference West Division standings to four points on Monday afternoon after winning the jamboree at Heritage Glen.

Niles now has 18 points, followed by St. Joseph with 14. The Bears finished third at the jamboree on Monday after shooting a 170.

Mattawan and Lakeshore are tied for third in the overall standings with 12 points. Benton Harbor is fifth with four points. The Tigers shot 255 on Monday.

Niles’ Jared Langmeyer earned medalist honors with his 37.

The Vikings also got 39 from Chris Noble, 40 from John Schrader, 44 from both Brett Phillips and Cole Hensel, while Christian Ezell shot 52.

“When one guy’s down, somebody else pops up and takes over,” Niles coach Greg Gunder said. “Last year we stumbled in the starting blocks. When you only have five matches it’s tough to regroup. I was really surprised that St. Joe finished in fourth place last night.”

The Niles junior varsity squad finished third at Hampshire Country Club on Monday afternoon.

Lakeshore won the JV jamboree with a 171. Mattawan was second with a 193 and Niles third with a 194. St. Joseph shot 197 as a team.
