Chieftain golfers take second at jamboree

OTSEGO – Despite having its top player withdraw on Tuesday afternoon, the Dowagiac golf team managed a second place finish at the Wolverine Conference Jamboree hosted by Otsego.

Chris Craft withdrew due to illness, leaving the Chieftains with only four scores, which are needed to post a team total in the event.

Vicksburg won the jamboree and extended its lead to three points (38-35) over Dowagiac in the overall league standings.

Vicksburg shot 158 on Tuesday, while Dowagiac finished with a 165.

Host Otsego was third with a 166, as did Gull Lake, however the Bulldogs won the tiebreaker.

Plainwell was fifth (169), Paw Paw sixth (175), Allegan seventh (177), South Haven eighth (181), Comstock ninth (188) and Three Rivers 10th (194).

In the overall standings, Gull Lake is third with 32 points, while Otsego and Plainwell round up the top five with 29 and 26 points respectively.

Dowagiac’s Cody Fairleigh tied for medalist honors after shooting a 36 with Vicksburg’s Brian Anderson.

Dowagiac also got a 42 from Kyle Ward, a 43 from Max Howe and a 44 from Jordan Juday.
