The Dowagiac varsity tennis team ran into a good Three Rivers squad on Monday afternoon in its second Wolverine Conference match of the year.

The result was an 8-0 win for the visiting Wildcats.

Three Rivers won seven of the eight flights in straight sets.

The Chieftains’ Megan Corey and Jessica Holmes went three sets at No. 4 doubles in falling to Stephanie Hunter and Ashley Boyer 4-6, 6-4 and 2-6.

The closest singles match of the day came at the third flight where Dowagiac’s Casey Collins fell to Holly Malinoski in a pair of tiebreakers 6-7(3) and 6-7(7).

“We ran into a good team in Three Rivers, but the girls worked hard and show some improvement,” Dowagiac coach Curtis Partee said. “We still have work to do with our doubles teams, and we will.”

Dowagiac is back on the court on Wednesday as it travels to Vicksburg for another league match.

Play is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
