Horvath second in 800-meters at Portage Early Bird

PORTAGE – The Niles track teams braved the elements Friday night to compete in the Portage Early Bird hosted by Portage Central.

Anthony Horvath grabbed the best finish of the night for the Vikings as he ran a 2:10 to finish second in the 800-meters.

Niles also grabbed a couple of third place finishes.

Ronnie Jones ran a 24.2 in the 200-meters to take third, while Roy Patterson was clocked at 17.8 in the 110-meter high hurdles.

Jones also finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 16-9.

Patterson finished sixth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 45.3.

Anthony Gonzalez finished sixth in the 400-meters with a time of 55.5, while Scott Derek was fifth in the shot put with a heave of 36-9.

Sam VandenHeede took 10th in the 1,600-meters as he was clocked at 5:11.

The Niles 400-meter relay team was fifth with a time of 48.4.

The Vikings did not have anyone place in the top 10 in the girls’ portion of the event.
