There’s 106,664 people waiting for organ transplants in the U.S. – enough to fill a football stadium. About 18 people die every day because they did not receive an organ transplant.
Berrien County and the state of Michigan have low numbers of organ donors.
“If anybody was out with any of these people for more than an hour,” Mike Kirby, volunteer with Gift of Life Michigan, said of organ recipients, “they would be out beating the bushes to get people signed up.”
What better way to give the greatest gift you will ever give – the gift of life? A life may be saved because of your donation. If you have ever had a loved one who has received an organ transplant, their new lease on life was made possible because of another person, likely someone they they did not and will never know.
There’s no age limit or prior medical, illness or cancer restrictions. Because you have had medical problems does not mean you can’t become a donor.
