Mason O. Clark Jr., 87

Mason O. Clark, Jr., 87, of Niles, formerly of East Jordan, Mich. died peacefully at his home Monday, March 22, 2010.

Mason was born Jan. 23, 1923 in East Jordan, the son of Margaret and Mason Clark Sr. He married Marah Leigh Farmer, Oct. 31, 1942 at St. Joseph Church in East Jordan. She preceded him in death July 10, 1992.

He lived in East Jordan until he went to Michigan State University in 1941. He worked for Dow Chemical. He entered the U. S. Marine Corps on Feb. 16, 1943, serving in the South Pacific on the aircraft carrier Block Island. He received an honorable discharge in 1946 as a tech sergeant. After returning from the service he opened an appliance store in East Jordan. He worked for the federal government in inspection all over the Midwest.  Mason retired from Defense Supply Agency after 20 years. After he retired from the government he worked for General Dynamics as a consultant. He received the Distinguished Carrier Award for 30 years in 1978, and Distinguished Carrier Award for 34 years in 1983. Mason loved his flowers, shopping and spending time with friends.
Mason leaves many loyal friends, nieces and nephews. He also leaves his loving companion Jack Russell terrier, “Jackie.” He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dale & Carroll.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Penzien Funeral Homes Inc. in East Jordan. Interment with military honors will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in East Jordan.
