Edwardsburg tops Cassopolis netters

The Edwardsburg tennis team opened up its season with an 8-0 victory over rival Cassopolis in Lakeland Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Eddies lost just six games in sweeping all eight flights.

Winning singles matches for Edwardsburg were Christina Boesler, Jenna Markn, Alex Watts and Emily Wagoner.

The Eddies’ doubles teams consisted of Nicole Davenport and Liz Ledeay; Haley Jones and Jamie Richardson; Nicole Nasco and Jacy Stachel; along with Alyssa Nasco and Saura Rowe.

After winning three out of the fourth singles flights, all visiting Edwardsburg needed to do was split in doubles competition.

And that’s exactly what the Eddies did in earning a 5-3 non-conference victory over Niles Thursday afternoon.

Edwardsburg defeated Niles at the second, third and fourth singles flights to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the match.

The Vikings’ lone victory came at No. 1 singles where Rachael Horn defeated defending Lakeland Conference champion Christina Boesler 6-2 and 6-3.

The Eddies picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 4 doubles to get the win.

The Vikings’ Meg Hein and Danielle Rothfuchs defeated Jamie Richardson and Hayley Jones at No. 2 doubles 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4, while at No. 3 doubles, the team of Taylor Glick and Abigail Stickney defeated Jacy Stachel and Nicole Nasco 6-4, 4-6 and 7-6.
