Kalamazoo wins Class A state title

EAST LANSING – Michigan crowned its boys’ basketball state champions Saturday at the Breslin Center on the campus of Michigan State University.

Kalamazoo Central, which eliminated Niles in the district title game, captured the Class A State Championship with a 74-65 victory over Ann Arbor Huron.

Devin Oliver scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Maroon Giants, who finish the year at 27-1.

T.J. Buchanan, Tyler Bell and Darius Norman all scored 12 points for Kalamazoo Central.

Dante Williams had 24 points to lead Huron, which ended its season at 23-5.

Class B

Detroit Country Day won yet another state title as it took the Class B championship with an easy 71-47 win over Lansing Sexton.

Ray McCallum Jr. poured in a game-high 32 points to lead the 26-2 Yellowjackets to the win.

Country Day also got 12 points from Amir Williams and 10 points from Kenny Knight.

Sexton (21-6) was led by Denzel Valentine’s 14 points.

Class C

Three players combined for 51 points in Melvindale ABT’s 59-43 win over Suttons Bay in the Class C title game.

Yakimi Noble led Melvindale (26-2) with 19 points, while Michael Talley and Marcel Smith both finished with 16 points.

Dwuan Anderson led Suttons Bay (25-2) with 16 points.

Class D

Muskegon West Michigan Christian (26-2) had Evan Bruinsma and London Burris score 25 and 21 points respectively to lead it to a 66-56 win over Marine City Cardinal Mooney in the Class D championship game.

Joe Broderick led Suttons Bay (22-6) with 17 points.

Tommy Twardecki and Garrison Glowniak finished with 14 and 13 points respectively.
