Joan M. Cleghorn, 81, of Benzonia died Saturday evening, March 6, 2010 at The Maples in Frankfort.

Born Sept. 19, 1928 in South Bend to Howard and Theursel Kehoe.

Joan moved to Benzonia from Edwardsburg in 1984. She was a homemaker, member of First Congregational Church, Benzonia and was an active volunteer at the Alzheimer’s and American Cancer Society fundraising events.

On April 4, 1947 in South Bend, she married Delbert W. Cleghorn, who survives. She is also survived by her children, Larry (Betty), of Woodbridge, Va., Nancy (Larry) Bowman, of Edwardsburg, Donald, of N. Augusta, S.C., Gail (John) Rill, of Tuscon, Ariz., Mark (Brenda), of Chandler, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Judy (Robert) Boepple; one brother, Howard (Ethel); and “adopted” children, Dave and Vernie Hagen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Janice; brother, Jack; and one grandson, Matthew.

Visitation for friends and family took place Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at First Congregational Church in Benzonia from noon until 2 p.m. A funeral service honoring her life was held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Furman officiating.

Memorial contributions in Joan’s honor may be directed to The Alzheimer’s Association or to The First Congregational Church in Benzonia.
