Brandywine Community Schools announced Kindergarten registration for the 2010-11 school year would be held Tuesday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Merritt Elementary School principal Karen Weimer said she expects to see anywhere between an estimated 80 and 85 new students register for the year.

Registration she said is “important” for parents, as it will be an opportune time to have questions answered and learn more about the programs available for their children.

“I think it’s just very important,” Weimer said. “There’s a lot to get ready for kindergarten.”

New students must be the age 5 by Dec. 1 in order to be eligible to register and parents should have the child’s official birth certificate, up-to-date immunization records, proof of address, emergency contact names and phone numbers and completed health appraisal or physical form.

Weimer said while the registration in April is intended to be primarily informational, a screening will follow that allows parents to bring their children along and get a look at their school and take a ride on the bus.
