EAST LANSING – It took double overtime for defending Class C state champion Flint Hamady to defeat St. Ignace Saturday afternoon at the Breslin Center.

Hamady edged the Saints, who defeated Brandywine in the semifinals on Thursday, 68-66 in the first ever overtime game in Class C championship history and only the second double-overtime game in any class.

Kiyana Dudley-Thompson was left all alone under the basket in the final seconds as the St. Ignace defense collapsed on Hamady’s Kathryn Thomas as she drove toward the basket.

Dudley-Thompson took the pass and got the shot off with less than a second to play to give Hamady the victory.

Arlesia Morse, who had 15 points in the 2009 title game, finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds for Hamady.

St. Ignace’s All-State guard Nicole Elmblad had 36 to lead all scorers.

Class A

Malika Glover scored 25 points to lead East Lansing to the Class A title with a 65-54 victory over Detroit Renaissance.

Klarissa Bell, who was named Miss Basketball earlier this month, finished with 14 points for East Lansing, which was defeated by Benton Harbor in the 2009 semifinals.

Lorreal Jones led Renaissance with 17 points.

Class B

Grand Rapids Catholic Central, which eliminated Wolverine Conference champion Gull Lake from the tournament in the quarterfinals, defeated defending state champion Detroit Country Day for the Class B title on Saturday.

Annalise Pickrel and Tiesha Stokes combined for 29 points to lead Catholic Central to the upset of the Yellowjackets.

Country Day defeated the Cougars in the 2009 championship game.

The Yellowjackets were led by Aeriel Powers’ 19 points.
