Betty R. Bloss, 83, of Cassopolis died Thursday, March 11, 2010 in the Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis.

She was born June 8, 1926 in New Carlisle, Ind. to the late Leonard and Blanche Meert, and came to this area in 1965 from Elkhart, Ind. She married LaMar J. Bloss on Dec. 24, 1947 in Elkhart, and he survives.

Betty retired from Martin’s Super Market in Elkhart as a cashier and also worked in the deli. She was a 1944 graduate of White Pigeon High School in White Pigeon, Mich.
She is also survived by three children, Jane A. (David) Davis of Edwardsburg, Charles W. (Penny) Bloss of Cassopolis and Timothy A. Bloss of Dowagiac; five grandchildren, David Davis, Joseph Davis, Dina (Nicholas) Davis-Rodriguez, Korey (Jenny) Blodd, Amy Bloss; a great-grandson, Anthony Rodriguez; five sisters, Mary Schaeffer of Sturgis, Mich., Shirley (Don) Giffin of Hastings, Mich., Nancy Mulder of Otsego, Mich., Judy  (Jon) Nieuwenhuis of Plainwell, Mich. and Sally (Lynn) Lukins of Portage, Mich.; two brothers, Eugene (Kathy) Meert of Plainwell, Mich., Larry Lee “Duke” (Kathy) Meert of Otsego, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Meert of Plainwell, Mich.; two brothers-in-law; Doyle (Dallis) Bloss of Elkhart, Ind. and Robert Morrison of Vandalia; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Leonard Bloss; two brothers, Jack Meert and William Meert; her mother- and father in-law, Joe and Neoda Bloss; a brother in-law, Larry Mulder; and two sisters-in-law, Norma Holdread and LoAnne Morrison.

A funeral service was held Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Connelly Funeral Home, Cassopolis. Officiating was Johnny Groda, chaplain with In-House Hospice. Cremation followed the service with burial of the remains at Adamsville Cemetery at a later date. The family received friends Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service Sunday at Connelly Funeral Home.
