Joseph M. Moreland Jr., 48, of Niles passed away in North Carolina.

He was in painting and construction for more than 20 years. He loved fishing, traveling and spending time with family.

He is survived by his parents, Audrey and Charles Cooke of Michigan; two sisters, Debbie (Tim) Vella of Michigan and Melissa (Billy) Adams of North Carolina; a niece, Jaime Thacker of Michigan; two nephews, Corey Thacker of Michigan and David Adams of North Carolina; two great-nieces, Courtney and Alexis and one great-nephew, Jacob, all of Michigan; and many cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Moreland, in 1998; grandparents, James and Evelyn Meek in 1996; stepbrother, Charles (Chucky) Cooke Jr. in 2008; and his first wife, Ginny Mae, in 1989.

He was married a second time in 2003, but they were separated in 2009.

His obituary was written by Joe himself and upon his request, cremation and burial has taken place and a private memorial was held in his honor for family and close friends.
