St. Joseph wins second straight championship

The St. Joe Bears captured their second straight Class B District Girls’ Basketball Tournament championship Friday night with a 63-37 win over arch rival Lakeshore.

This was the third consecutive meeting for the Bears and the Lancers in the district finals.
Lakeshore won the championship two years ago.

The game was close for just one quarter as St. Joseph grabbed an 11-7 lead and stretched it to 29-16 at the intermission.

The Bears opened up a 26-point lead (47-21) heading into the final quarter and cruised home from there.

The win propels St. Joseph to the Class B Regional Tournament at Three Rivers High School on Tuesday. The Bears will take on Battle Creek Harper Creek.

Kaitlin Mavis scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Bears, who also got 18 points from Erika Priebe.

No Lakeshore player reached double figures on the contest. Kaitlin Cornwell scored eight points to lead the Lancers. Taylor Maas finished with seven.
