MHSAA crowns state bowling champions

STERLING HEIGHTS – Randy Fisher of Burton Bently defeated Mike Bohnett of Clinton 451-371 to win the Division 4 Boys’ Individual Bowling state title on Saturday at Sunnybrook Lanes.
Brandywine’s Shane Zelasko and Zach Rose failed to advance to the round of 16 on Saturday afternoon and were eliminated from the tournament.
Zelasko shot 1,162 in the morning round, while Rose shot a 1,118. The pair finished 22nd and 32nd respectively in the morning round.
The girls’ state championship went to Sandusky’s Ashley Smith, who defeated Lauren Thierry of Riverview Gabriel Richard 371-347.
Brandywine’s Haley Cameron finished 34th in the morning round after shooting a 981 and did not advance.
The top 16 bowlers based on their pin fall totals advanced to the round of 16. Those totals were based on a six-game qualifying block on Saturday morning.
