Hutchison, Green still alive at state wrestling finals

AUBURN HILLS – Buchanan’s Gage Hutchison and Mack Green remained alive at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Individual Finals on Friday.

Both are 2-1 heading into this morning’s action at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Hutchison (50-4) lost to Roger Crump of Richmond, but rebounded to pin Chris Wellman of Durand in 2:40 at 160 pounds.

Green (50-3) was defeated by Drake Renas before bounding back to pin Myron Hosey of Belding in 2:03 at 215 pounds.

Adam Byrdak, who won his first match of the finals, dropped his next two and finished the year at 40-14.

Edwardsburg’s Devin Bywaters dropped his first match of the tournament before defeating Bart Didluch of Frankenmuth (3-1) and Pat Ritchie of Gladwin (2:50) to stay alive at 189 pounds.

In the morning session, Niles’ Colin Burandt was eliminated in Divsion 2 at 130-pounds when he lost to Gabe Stepanovish of Forest Hills Northern 4-2.

In Division 4, Brandywine’s Ralph Sater was unable to come back from his shoulder injury and defaulted his second round match.

Buchanan’s Taylor Glavin and Jeff Mucha both dropped their second round matches and were eliminated from the tournament.

Wrestling action began at 8:30 this morning with the finals slated for 4:45 p.m.
