The Niles junior varsity basketball team was edged by visiting Kalamazoo Loy Norrix Tuesday night, 55-53.

Logan Harpenau scored 24 points for the Vikings, who also got 11 points from Trey Nichols.

“The kids competed,” Niles coach Josh Bourne said. “In every category we played very well. We did everything that we were supposed to to win the game, shot well, made free throws, ran our offense, sprinted the floor, etc… but unfortunately a couple of unlucky bounces and we ended up on the losing side.”

Norrix hit a shot with 0.6 seconds left to win the game in regulation.

“The one thing I felt we did poorly was keeping their guards out of the lane, but other than that I was so impressed with how our kids played.  It was a fun game to watch,” Bourne added.

Niles will wrap up the season on Thursday night at Portage Central.
