Strong arm robbery at Marathon

Director of Public Safety Tom Atkinson reports that officers of the Dowagiac Police Department were called to the Marathon station at 801 Spruce St. approximately 2:25 p.m. Monday, March 2, in regards to a strong-arm robbery.

Officers learned that the victim, after fueling her vehicle, had been approached by a suspect, who then snatched her wallet and fled to the south on Tuthill Street and then east on W. High Street.

The victim suffered no injuries during the robbery.

Dowagiac Police Officers, along with detectives of CCDET, the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team, after an initial investigation, were able to identify the suspect. He was located at his residence on W. Division Street and taken into custody approximately one hour after the robbery.

All of the stolen property was recovered, according to Sgt. Michael Heidenreich.

The suspect was transported to the Cass County Jail, where he will be held pending arraignment.

Police withheld the suspect’s identity until then.

In addition to CCDET, the Dowagiac Police Department was also assisted by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
