BATTLE CREEK – Two out of the four Michigan High School Athletic Association Team Wrestling state championship matches came down to the wire Saturday afternoon at the Kellogg Arena.

Top-ranked St. Johns edged Wolverine Conference champion Allegan 31-30 in Division 2, while Richmond nipped top-seeded Dundee 24-23 in Division 3.

The No. 1 seeds in Divisions 1 and 4 rolled to their respective state titles.

Detroit Catholic Central defeated Rockford, the defending state champion, 39-24 in the Division 1 final.

Hudson successfully defended its Division 4 crown with a 43-20 win over Addison.

St. John’s captured is first ever state championship, while Detroit Catholic Central its first title under the team format.

Catholic Central last captured a state championship in 1983 under the old individual format.
Richmond captured its first state title since 2002. Richmond was the state runner up in 2007.
