Edwardsburg holds off Cassopolis in Lakeland play 52-43

EDWARDSBURG – The host Eddies continued their tune up for the postseason Tuesday night with a 52-43 Lakeland Conference victory over arch rival Cassopolis.

The contest was a makeup game from earlier in the month.

Edwardsburg and Cassopolis were knotted at 13 after one period of play, but the Eddies grabbed a 25-22 halftime advantage and then built on it throughout the second half.

Edwardsburg outscored Cassopolis 15-8 in the third quarter to open up a 40-31 advantage heading to the final quarter.

The Eddies (11-8, 8-3 Lakeland) also outscored the Rangers (7-12, 2-9 Lakeland) in the fourth quarter.

Rachel Vite scored a game-high 24 points to lead Edwardsburg offensively.

The Eddies also got 11 points from Sarah D’Amico and eight points from Ashley Streb.
The Rangers were led by Damonica Kelly’s 12 points. Lela Broussard added 10 points and Savannah Sullivan eight points.

The two teams wrap up their regular season on Thursday night.

Cassopolis’s Stefon Luckey scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Rangers to a 52-49 non-conference win over visiting New Buffalo Tuesday night.

The win raised Cassopolis’ season record to 7-10. The Bison dip to 8-9.

The Rangers grabbed a slim 12-8 lead after one quarter and increased their advantage to 30-20 by halftime.

New Buffalo outscored Cassopolis 19-9 in the third quarter to knot the score at 39 heading to the fourth.

Cassopolis held a 13-10 advantage in the scoring column over the final eight minutes of play to pull out the victory.
Beside Luckey’s total, the Ranger
s also got seven points from Tommy First and Nate Hartline, while Angelo Burmeister and Steven Eleazer both finished with six points.

Thomas Shelby led the Bison with 14 points. Tyler Henninger and Blane Zavesky both finished with eight points.

The Rangers are back in action on Friday night as they travel to Bridgman for a Lakeland Conference contest.
