Peggy A. Sanders, 83, of Eagle Lake died at 4:25 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010 in Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born Feb. 9, 1927 in Memphis, Tenn. and was later adopted through the Tennessee Children’s Home Society to Mary Caroline and Grady Smith of Houston, Texas. She married Jack F. Sanders on Sept. 2, 1956 in Yuma, Ariz.

Peggy was a school secretary, ran a home day care for children and most recently worked in the Memorial High School cafeteria. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends, family and neighbors at the lake.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; two daughters, Susan (David) Jefferson, Tarzana, Calif. and her favorite, Sally A. Sanders of St. Paul, Minn.; twin sons, William (Nancy) Sanders, Elkhart and Charles Sanders, Wadena, Wis.; three grandchildren, Jenna Sanders, Kira and Jonathan Jefferson; and one stepdaughter, Carole (Tom) Van Dam of Kalamazoo.

She is preceded in death by a brother, James Grady Smith.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 East Jackson Blvd., Elkhart. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Edwards H. Slate, Wesley United Methodist Church, Niles will officiate.

Cremation has taken place and a burial will be at a later date at Adamsville Cemetery.
