DECATUR – Veteran Brandywine coach Rex Pomranka was hoping that history was going to repeat itself Wednesday night.

The Bobcats edged Constantine 35-34 in last year’s Division 4 regional semifinals.
But the Falcons had other ideas.

Constantine defeated Brandywine 48-23 to advance to the championship match Wednesday night and the Falcons then claimed the crown with a 39-29 win over defending champion Schoolcraft.

“(Constantine) wanted a little redemption after what happened at districts last year,” Pomranka said. “They came out on fire and we were a little flat. We wrestled tough. I told our kids coming in that I thought we had a shot. The only people that believed that was our team.”

Early on it didn’t look like his prediction was going to be correct.

The Falcons rolled out to a 15-0 lead on the Bobcats, but with the heart of its line up still waiting to wrestle, Pomranka knew his squad would make a run at Constantine.

And that’s just what they did.

The Bobcats got back-to-back pins at 119- and 125-pounds from Jimmie Wright and Chanc Ravish.

Wright stuck Wade Craver in 2:40, while Ravish pinned Tyler Spencer in 2:29.

Two wins by Constantine pushed the lead to 24-12 before back-to-back wins from Adam Earles and Ralph Sater at 140- and 145-pounds suddenly made it a 24-20 contest.

Earles and Sater both posted major decisions (wins by more than eight points).

Earles defeated Travis DeKilder 16-7 and Sater defeated Ben Mallow 11-3.

That unfortunately would be as close as Brandywine would get.

Constantine would take four of the next five bouts to advance to the finals.
