BUCHANAN – Host Buchanan overcame a slow start to hand Bronson a 40-23 non-conference defeat in girls’ basketball action Tuesday night.

The two teams combined for just five points in the opening quarter, however, Buchanan grabbed a 13-8 halftime lead and then took control of the game in the second half.

The Bucks opened up a 24-16 third quarter advantage and then exploded for 16 points in the final stanza.

Julie LaBounty led Buchanan with a game-high 13 points, while Elizabeth Hein added nine and Amanda Wynn eight.

The Vikings were led by Jorden Bell’s 13 points. Hailey Brewer added six.

The Bucks were edged by the Vikings in the junior varsity contest 24-22.

Ashlynn Pastryk led Buchanan with eight points.

The Bucks are back on the hardwood again Thursday night as they host rival Buchanan in a Lakeland Conference clash.
